about

These two tracks were written years in the past, but have stuck with me.

Olympic Days was one of the first songs that I ever played for people other than myself. I didn't know of Jens Lekman's "A Postcard to Nina" when I wrote Olympic Days, but Olympic Days is basically a bitter, less story-driven version of Jens' amazing track. When I first played the guitar riff at the end, I felt things I'd never felt from my own music. It was cathartic to play, almost as if it excised any demons or negative thoughts. It still stabs me in the gut (in a good way) whenever I play it today. I don't know anyone named Kurt, let alone 3 people named Kurt.

Water/Falls was written after a moderately transformative experience. I'd worked a 9-5 for a year or so and just started to get burnt out. For whatever reason, I was off early on a Friday and went for a hike. After hiking about a mile into deep woods, it started *pouring*. I ended up drenched in glorious summer rain, embracing the wet clothes and muddy shoes. It put me in the best mood I'd been in in a long, long time at that point. It taught me that sometimes, the best thing you can do is embrace things you can't control and find whatever joy in them that you can.

Please enjoy these songs. There's a more significant release on the way, but these two were sort of oblong tracks that didn't quite fit in the "vision" for any future projects; but are still deserving of my love. And yours, I hope.
